Resistance: They Fought Back, a feature documentary about Jewish resistance during the Holocaust, is set to premiere on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET on PBS. The film, told through the voices of survivors, their descendants, and experts, highlights the often-overlooked story of Jewish resistance against the Nazis. It challenges the myth that Jews went passively to their deaths, revealing how they fought back through both nonviolent actions and armed revolts in ghettos, forests, and concentration camps. The project is co-directed by Paula S. Apsell, a former executive producer of PBS’s NOVA and Kirk Wolfinger.
The documentary will be available for streaming on PBS platforms, including PBS.org and the PBS app, available on iOS, Android, Roku streaming devices, Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Smart TV, Chromecast and VIZIO.PBS members can also access it via PBS Passport.
“Resistance: They Fought Back” is produced by Leading Edge Productions, Inc. in association with Lone Wolf Media, and distributed for PBS broadcast. The film sheds light on often-hidden chapters of Holocaust history, offering a necessary corrective to the myth of Jewish passivity during the Holocaust.
