Artistic Statement
A historical and personal journey that began when I was seven years old and I first visited Auschwitz. A wound was made so deep, I didn’t know it was something transgenerational, for something I did not live, and yet, felt so close. This short film allowed me to transform what has no words, into something tangible, to inhabit a new opportunity for those who were no longer here. This short film is a letter to remember, a letter of love to someone I never met: My grandfather Ruwen and his sister Henczka. Is about creating empathy to those silenced during the Holocaust and how hope was a feeling to prevail and resist the worst that can happen to someone. It is about giving voice to my grandfather’s words, hoping that his story resonates with other families like ours; “See You Soon” is a family wound that through cinema will try to heal collectively.
Stop motion animation is an allegory to bring back in a physical way to my grandfather Ruwen and his sister Hanecka; a metaphor for their longing and hope of seeing each other again, and the shortest way to become a reality in our present, in a permanent way.
