A young boy after the Hungarian uprising of 1956, raised by his mother with the tale of an idealized dead father, is confronted with a brutish man who claims to be his real father. 


About the Director

László Nemes

Laszlo Nemes’ debut feature, Son of Saul, is one of the most awarded debut features ever, having won an Oscar for best foreign language film at the Academy Awards, a BAFTA for best film not in the English language, as well as the Grand Prix at the Cannes International Film Festival. 

His sophomore film, Sunset, premiered at the 2018 Venice Film Festival where it also won the FIPRESCI prize. 

Orphan is Laszlo’s third feature film and has played in many of the world’s leading festivals, including Venice, Toronto and London.
