Emerging Filmmaker Contest Winner, THE ICE CREAM MAN, Shortlisted for Oscar

Out of 180 films eligible for the 97th Academy Awards, The Ice Cream Man (dir: Robert Moniot, producer: Robert Moniot, Greg Malone, San Fu Maltha) was one of 15 to make the nominations shortlist in the Best Live Action Short category.

The film tells the story of the Amsterdam-based Jewish ice cream parlor owner Ernst Cahn, whose act of resistance and subsequent torture and execution sparked the “February Strike,” the largest mass resistance against the Nazis during World War II.

Nominations voting begins on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, and concludes on Sunday, January 12, 2025, with nominations to be announced on Friday, January 17, 2025.

The Ice Cream Man will be screening at The Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York on Jan. 23. Tickets available here. The film will also screen this month at the Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival and Key Biscane Film Festival.
