Synopsis/Project Description: Who is Karoline Cohn? is about the discovery of a young girl’s pendant found at the Sobibor excavation site. She is eventually identified as Karoline Cohn, who was born in Frankfurt in 1929 and died in the Sobibor death camp in 1943. The film shows how Chaim Motzen, an amateur genealogist based in Jerusalem, located Karoline Cohn’s relatives around the world, eventually leading to a family reunion in Frankfurt at an event organized by the Claims Conference in November 2017.

Director

Kitra Cahana is an acclaimed documentary photographer, filmmaker, and TED speaker. She holds aB.A. in philosophy fromMcGill University and an M.A. in Visual and Media Anthropology from the Freie Universität in Berlin. Her work explores important social, anthropological, and spiritual themes, and she is committed to telling deeply human stories with sensitivity and depth. Kitra has received numerous grants and awards, including, a TED Senior Fellowship, a Peabody Award, the International Center ofPhotography’s Infinity Award for young photographers, a DuPont Columbia award, a World Press Photo award, a World Press Photo Online Video of the Year Nominee, and multiple Canada Council grants for the Visual Arts.
