Congratulations to the team of My Underground Mother (dir/prod: Marisa Fox, prod: Deborah Shaffer, Kelly Sheehan) for winning Best Feature Film at the 2026 Docs & Dialogue Spring Series at Philadelphia Jewish Film and Media.
The documentary follows filmmaker Marisa Fox as she investigates the life of her mother, Tamar-Fromer Fox, a Jewish Polish survivor of Nazi slave labor who concealed her Holocaust experiences after immigrating to the United States. Drawing in part on a diary written by teenage inmates at the Nazi-run women’s camp Gabersdorf, the film examines her mother’s hidden past and the experiences of women during the Holocaust.
My Underground Mother can next be seen at the opening of the 16th Annual Axelrod Jewish International Film Festival on July 12th at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center.
It will also be shown at the Berkshire Jewish Film Festival on July 20th at The Duffin Theater.
