Zelda: A Simple Woman

Through never-before-seen archival footage and meetings with her lovers and her friends (among them Amos Oz and singer Chava Alberstein), this film sketches a portrait of the first religious female poet in the Hebrew canon.


Synopsis

She published her first book of poetry at the age of 53 and became a prominent figure in the field of Hebrew literature. Niece of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, living alone in Jerusalem, writing poems on pieces of paper, surrounded by a small court of lovers and admirers. Through never-before-seen archival meetings with her loves and friends (Amos, Chava Alberstein), the film gently sketches a portrait of the first religious female poet.

About the Director

Yair Qedar (Hebrew: יאיר קדר, born June 13, 1969) is an Israeli documentary filmmaker, social activist and former journalist. In his project “the Hebrews”, he had been Chronicling the lives of Jewish and Israeli figures of the modern Hebrew literary canon, Qedar’s 19 feature length documentaries have all premiered at film festivals and have won the director over 30 prizes. Also, Qedar is a leading LGBTQ activist. He created several Queer films and the first Israeli LGBTQ newspaper.
