Congratulations tothe team of The Grandfather Puzzle (dir: Ora DeKornfeld, prod: Noémi Veronika Szakonyi, Máté Artur Vincze) on receiving the Best Documentary Short Film award at the 2026 Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride.
The Grandfather Puzzle is the Claims Conference’s 2024 Emerging Filmmaker contest winner. The filmfollows a filmmaker’s attempt to connect with her Holocaust survivor grandfather, whose lifelong obsession with puzzles contrasts with his refusal to discuss his past. Traveling to Hungary to photograph the castle where he grew up and transform it into a puzzle, the filmmaker embarks on a personal journey that becomes a darkly comic exploration of identity, belonging, and the complexities of historical memory.
The film will next screen at DC/DOX on June 13 in Washington, DC.
